Following on from the successful 2013/14 and 2015/16 Streets Ahead schemes in Waihī East, the Forum announced its latest Streets Ahead project - a $300 Street Front Home Improvement grant - for each home in Waihī East.
“We'd like to thank everyone who applied for the grant" says Belinda Burke, WCF Chairperson. "We’re very happy with the number of applications we received, and have enjoyed driving around the area and looking at all the great work that has been done.”
The Forum ran a competition for the best or most creative use of the grant, and was pleased to announce that Allison Leonard won a $1000.00 Mitre 10 voucher prize for further home improvements. The Forum could see that Allison really immersed herself in the challenge, doing much of the work herself.
Being both creative and resourceful, she used the $300 to give her front fences a good tidy-up and to replace parts of her deck; reusing the old timber as borders for her garden beds. She also had a bit of fun with her garage, purchasing an old window on a local Buy/Sell/Swap page for $20 which she then sanded, painted and added to her garage wall, placing it over a picture of an island view: “I found heaps of inspiration on Pintrest, there are so many great ideas on there on how to do and make things for your garden really cheaply” she said. “Someone on Pintrest had used old fence palings as artworks in their garden and I thought that was a great idea and did the same here.”
She plans on using her prize to continue working on her garden and garage.
